My name is Genevieve Fleniken Glazer. I was born and raised here in Grosse Tete. January 24th, 1931 and I've here in this area ever since. Right now I am at the Midway Grocery Store, which my daddy had for years and the building seems to be between a 100 and a 125 years old and has always been a general store. Years ago the groceries and things were delivered by the Bayou (Grosse Tete) from the ferry boat, it might have been called some other kind of boat.

The captain's name was Charlie, Captain Charlie. When he would come up the bayou he would sound his whistle and the people in the area, the stores and all, which, at that time, I think there was about either five or seven stores, they would go to the bayou bank and they would get groceries off in bulk manner and haul it to the store with buggies and the mules or horses, whatever.
