Getting back to the Store, that the first Post Office in Grosse Tete was on the side of the store, which eventually became the warehouse to the store and now we use it as a daiquiri shop, a real small, quaint place. But the Post Office was there for years and then they moved it down to Grosse Tete next to another grocery store, more in the central location of the town. The store here got its name "Midway" because at one time it was a midway place between the north, south, east and west of the cities that they were traveling to. That is the story I have been told. Back then they always had anything you wanted in the store, from clothes, to liquor, to groceries, hardware, just anything you wanted to name it was always there. People think that Walmart's just came in, but we considered ourselves a mini Walmart from way back. Also it is hard to believe that the store has been in existence in open operation all these years.
