Rusty diesel

Rusty Diesel

OK, is the Virginia Transportation Museum a junk drop-off for the adjacent Norfolk Southern yard? Sure they need a big diesel, but how did they get stuck with this bucket?

QUESTIONS: Can the museum put up a better fence across the rails coming in? I am being too harsh?

RESPONSES:

From Roger Rassche:

Roanoke, like a lot of museums, gets by on volunteer labor, so some things take time. This poor thing is EMD's 10,000th diesel and was the only E8A preserved at all until recently. It looks like a slow restoration is in progress.

From M.S.:
(why I'm using initials instead of a name here)

Rusty Diesel is an E-8 or E-9, probably off the Wabash. Why it has been stripped of its paint and then not even primer coated is beyond me.
